Why is this Dialogue important?

The system of international trade is undoubtedly going through a complex period. Chile therefore feels this is a good moment to create an opportunity for open and frank dialogue among the countries from the Asia-Pacific basin who make up the Pacific Alliance, the signatories of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) as well as China and the Republic of Korea. We hope that this opportunity will enable us to address the challenges we face with creativity and conviction.

We need to strengthen our international trade system in order for the benefits generated to reach every sector of our societies, creating more jobs, more opportunities, more social mobility and, ultimately, greater wellbeing for all.

More integration, better trade:

“We believe in free trade and we are convinced that an open economy is beneficial and positive to our countries. We need to progress towards more inclusive trade liberalization so that the benefits of free trade will reach the whole population.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Heraldo Muñoz

Alianza del Pacífico

The Pacific Alliance and its projection into the Asia-Pacific region

One of the principles that has inspired the Pacific Alliance since its inception has been the creation of opportunities for dialogue with other countries and trade blocs.

This is why we have invited the countries which share our vocation for integration to join this opportunity for reflection, with the objective of reaffirming our commitment to free trade and the processes of economic integration within the Asia-Pacific region.
